How to Plan a Nikkah Ceremony.

Planning a Nikkah is like any other event, you have many different things to think about. Use our easy-to-follow guide to organize your beautiful Nikkah.

Step #1 - Find the right partner.

Have deep conversations with your future partner, are you both aligned on what marriage entails and do you have common ground when it comes to faith, values and ethics?

“Do not prevent them from marrying their husbands when they agree between themselves in a lawful manner.” (2:232) This verse in the Quran explains how women have the freedom to choose a life partner at their own discretion.

Step #2 - Determine a suitable date.

Pick a suitable date for your Nikkah ceremony. This should be agreed upon by both families and the couple.

Step #3 - Decide on the location of the ceremony.

This can be the bride's or groom's home, a mosque, a banquet hall, or any other appropriate setting.

Step #4 - Check your local laws.

Research the local requirements of your country. In many Western countries, you are obligated to have a civil marriage in place before conducting religious ceremonies.

Step #5 - Complete your Nikkah contract.

The nikkah contract is the foundation of your legal marriage. This document captures the requirements outlined in Islam for a couple to get married. Nikkafy can provide the contracts and the certificates for your Nikkah ceremony.

Step #6 - Invite your guests.

Create a guest list and send out invitations at least three weeks before the ceremony.

Step #7 - Select your attire.

Select appropriate attire for the bride and groom.

Step #8 - Plan the Ceremony.

Plan the ceremony itself, which usually includes recitations from the Quran and a sermon by the religious officiant, followed by the signing of the Nikkah contract and your Nikkah certificate.

Step #9 - Plan the Reception.

Plan the reception, which often involves a festive meal, celebrations with the couple and pictures.

Step #10 - Prepare Activities.

Prepare any additional activities or entertainment for guests, such as a henna ceremony, games, or speeches.

Step #11 - Discuss the action plan.

Coordinate with the venue and vendors to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day of the Nikkah ceremony.

Step #12 - Have a backup plan.

Have a backup plan in case of any unexpected circumstances, such as bad weather or vendor cancellations.
